Why should a shampoo pH be different for each gender?

Skin pH differs between sex (higher in males) and that’s why our products are gender specific. An intact skin plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of several diseases and alterations in cutaneous pH due to the frequent use of an inappropriate shampoo can have a negative effect in its integrity. Bathing with a non – irritating shampoo and lukewarm water is proven to improve skin and coat hygiene and care. Why does Multi-purpose fur & skin care spray contain sunscreen?

Just like humans, our pet’s skin can get irritated or even burned from sun exposure, especially those with white or short fur and light skin. Sun-sensitive areas of the body, such as the nose, around the lips, tips of the ears and the belly, can be easily damaged by the sun(usually manifesting in discoloration or red – spots) and thus, they require protection. The Multi – purpose fur and skin care spray will, not only protect our pets from UV rays(broad – spectrum sunscreen), but also moisturize their fur and sooth their skin due to natural ingredients like coconut oil and aloe vera.

What does the claim “helps against ticks & fleas” mean?

Ticks serve as vectors of a wide range of infectious agents deleterious to humans and animals. Several studies have proved the effect of silver nanoparticles against ticks or major pathogens transmitted by the bites of ticks, such as bacteria, viruses or protozoa. The efficacy of our silver nanoparticles has been tested by the group of Veterinary Prof. H. Papadopoulos against well – known parasites, indicating their potential as active ingredients in this area(furthered by NSRF grant no.T2EDK – 02826). We understand NanoSanitas products are Parabens free, what is used as preservative?

Our current products are preservative-free and thus paraben-free without of course risking the contamination and growth of harmful bacteria. Silver nanoparticles prevent the growth of pathogens, thus maintaining and preserving the product for a long period of time. All our products have already undergone rigorous testing, such as stability, compatibility and challenge tests to assure safety and the long-term preservation of our products

Does NanoSanitas can kill only single bacteria or all types of bacteria?

The antimicrobial activity of Silver Nano Particles (AgNPs) has been tested against both, MDR (multidrug-resistant) and non-MDR strains of bacteria. AgNPs have displayed synergistic antimicrobial effect when used in combination with antibiotics against both gram (+) and gram (-) bacteria, including methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE). Besides potency against MDR and non-MDR bacterial strains, AgNPs also act as a potent, fast-acting anti-fungal and anti-viral agent against a wide range of fungal and viral genera. In accordance with literature, we have tested NanoSanitas grooming products against well established skin pathogens of the dog and cat: Staphyloccoci, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. AgNPs have a very broad-spectrum action without causing any kind of microbial resistance. It becomes obvious that AgNPs can be used against a wide range both gram (+) and gram (-) bacteria, fungi and viruses but not against all types of pathogens. Such action could only be expected form harsh detergents intended for industrial use. After all, there is no antibiotic of disinfectant currently on the market that is intended for human or animal use that has a claim against all types of pathogens.

Does NanoSanitas shampoo cause eye irritation?

NanoSanitas grooming products are carefully designed to optimize skin protection and fur care. Our uniquely formulated pH balanced products are enriched with natural oils and extracts in order to minimize the risk of ocular irritation. However, the addition of surfactants might still cause some minimum degree conjunctival irritation. Unfortunately, not all dogs will fully cooperate with their owner to thoroughly rinse their eye with tap water, thus some foam may remain underneath the eyelid, causing them to rub their eyes further establishing a vicious circle.
Even though all our products are carefully designed to be skin, eye and mucous friendly, we recommend to avoid eye and mucous contact in order to further minimize any potential cases or irritation.

How does the Silver in the Odor Vanish Spray reduce or eliminate odors?

Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have been incorporated into foot powders, sprays, soaps, socks, shoe insoles and a wide range of fabrics used for pajamas, briefs and undergarment sand pillows. In recent years a wide range of other applications in medicine, such as wound dressings have also been developed. Silver is a proven natural antibacterial agent, removing malodors in killing bacteria that cause them. [1] That said, Nano Silver does not eliminate odors of other origin, e.g. ammonia in pets’ urea and thus, may in some cases seem to work more effectively than others.
Our Anti-odor spray does not absorb or mask the odor, but eliminates malodors from almost all types of substrates, such as fabrics, leather and tiles, while disinfecting them at the same time. Concerning the proper use, we suggest shaking before use and spraying at a distance of 30-50cm on pet accessories. Since inhibition of the odor depends on the microbial load, the number of sprayings should be evaluated accordingly.

Are the ingredients tested on animals at all? Do you have an animal testing policy?

Nanosanitas research team has developed all our products driven by our love and respect towards the animals and the environment we all live in. Our ultimate goal is to promote their welfare by healing and protection. To accomplish that, we are in line with the Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on cosmetic products. The directive establishes prohibition to test finished cosmetic products and cosmetic ingredients on animals. The ingredients contained in our formulas are either CPNP (Cosmetic Products Notification Portal) approved raw materials, which means that they will cause no harm either to the pet, humans or to the environment or were complied with extensive toxicological, antimicrobial and other testing that have preceded launching and were all approved by a bioethics committee.

How often do you recommend as a brand to wash our dogs?

Unless there is a medical reason for therapeutic baths, most dogs should be bathed once or twice a month. Of course, bath frequency greatly varies based upon their breed, lifestyle, length of coat, and how much homework a pet owner is willing to do. However, Nanosanitas grooming products are specially designed to fit every need, so if your dog’s habits or other medical reasons call for frequent use, you should be confident that our products are suitable for frequent use.

I have seen some brands using silver to keep the coat white and nice. Does the Silver nanoparticles in the shampoo also work as whitening for dogs with white coat?

Various shampoos and other products promise to enhance the coat colour of our dog, leaving it sleek and shiny. But, why in fact does our pet’s coat change colour? Discolouration itself does not cause any harm. However, it can be a symptom of an underlying medical problem. Medical issues concerning the eyes, the oral cavity, and also allergies or other inflammatory skin conditions that cause itching can cause coat staining. In all instances, colour discoloration is not just a cosmetic problem.
Strong detergents acting against excessive amounts of grease and dirt in the coat is not an option, as they may exacerbate an already existing skin condition. The addition of colour enhancement chemicals to either stain or whiten the coat, will just sweep the problem under the carpet by concealing an underlying medical condition. A balanced diet and appropriate hydration of the skin and coat is the key to a healthy and shiny coat.
